AI cover letter generator

A cover letter for every job, written for you.

Hireoo writes a fresh cover letter for each job you apply to, in the style you pick, and sends it to the recruiter with your resume — from your own Gmail.

The short answer

How does Hireoo's AI cover letter generator work?

Hireoo is an AI job agent that writes a separate cover letter and application email for every job you apply to, then sends it from your own Gmail with your resume attached. You pick one of four styles — Warm & Personal and Tailored to the Job are free, Resume Specific and Custom Template come with Hireoo Pro (₹499/month) — review the letter once on your first application, and after that every application is one tap.

  • Warm & Personal

    Free
    Built from
The role and the company, plus the skills the posting asks for that your resume shows. It never names your past employers, projects or job titles.
    Best for
Most applications — and freshers or career switchers, because it doesn't lean on titles you don't have yet.
    Example excerpt

Hello Neha, Acme Retail's plan to bring every store's sales into one daily view is the kind of work I want to do, and the Data Analyst role is where my skills fit. I work comfortably in SQL and Power BI, and I like turning messy numbers into a report a store manager can act on the same morning…

  • Tailored to the Job

    Free
    Built from
The posting's top requirements, each answered with your matching skills and how you'd use them there. Your base letter sets the tone; past employers stay out.
    Best for
Postings with a clear list of must-haves.
    Example excerpt

Hello, The Data Analyst role at Acme Retail asks for three things above all: strong SQL, clear Power BI dashboards and experiments the business can trust. SQL is where I'm strongest — joins, window functions and the clean tables a weekly report depends on. In Power BI, I'd build the store-level views your regional managers need…

  • Resume Specific

    Pro
    Built from
Your two most recent roles, tied to what the posting asks for. No base letter needed.
    Best for
Candidates with relevant experience, whose recent roles are the strongest argument.
    Example excerpt

Hello Neha, As a Junior Data Analyst at Acme Logistics, I rebuilt the weekly delivery report in SQL and Power BI and cut the time it took to prepare from a full day to under an hour — the same kind of reporting the Data Analyst role at Acme Retail asks for…

  • Custom Template

    Pro
    Built from
Your own letter, sent exactly as you write it, with the company, the role and the recruiter's name filled in for each job.
    Best for
A letter you already trust, or a format you need to keep.
    Example excerpt

    Hello {HR_NAME}, I'm writing to apply for the {Role} role at {Company}. Over the last two years I've… Regards, {CandidateName}

Examples are written for a fictional candidate, Ananya Iyer, applying for a Data Analyst role at a fictional company, Acme Retail. Hireoo greets the recruiter by first name when the hiring post gives one, and opens with a plain “Hello,” when it doesn't.

Choosing

Which style should you use?

A letter that names the company and answers what the posting asks for reads very differently from a generic one with the company name swapped in, and recruiters tend to notice. All four styles are written per job; they differ in what they lean on.

  • You're a fresher or switching fields → Warm & Personal. It talks about the role, the company and your skills, without leaning on job titles you don't have yet.
  • The posting lists clear requirements → Tailored to the Job. It takes the top needs one by one and answers each with a matching skill and how you'd use it there.
  • Your recent roles are your best argument → Resume Specific (Pro). It writes from your two most recent roles and ties them to what the job needs.
  • You already have a letter that works → Custom Template (Pro). It sends your words exactly, with the company, role and recruiter filled in for each job.

Not sure? Start with the default, Warm & Personal. You can switch styles at any time on the Cover Letter page in Hireoo, and every letter after that is written in the new one. The two Pro styles are part of Hireoo Pro.

Written and sent

How Hireoo writes and sends your cover letter

The letter is the body of the email, so the recruiter reads it the moment they open it. Your resume rides along as the attachment.

  1. Tell the agent what you want

Describe the job in a sentence — role, city, experience, remote or hybrid — and upload your resume once.

  2. It finds and ranks jobs

Hireoo searches fresh hiring posts from across the web, ranks each one against your resume with a fit % and a reason, and finds the recruiter's email in the post.

  3. It writes a letter for each job

A cover letter and email for every job, in the style you chose, written from that posting and your resume.

  4. You review once, then it's one tap

Check the letter on your first application. After that, apply with one tap, or auto-apply to a whole batch that keeps sending even if you close the tab.

  5. It sends from your Gmail

Each application goes out from your own Gmail with your resume attached, and is listed with what was sent, to whom and when.

Interested in Data Analyst at Acme Retail — Ananya Iyer

Hello Neha,

Acme Retail's plan to bring every store's sales into one daily view is the kind of work I want to do, and the Data Analyst role is where my skills fit.

I work comfortably in SQL, Python and Power BI, and I enjoy turning messy numbers into a report a store manager can act on the same morning. The posting asks for clear dashboards and careful reporting, and that is exactly the work I'd want to own.

I've attached my resume and would welcome a short call about the role.

Best regards, Ananya Iyer

How to write a cover letter that gets read

Whether you write your own or use Custom Template, the same rules apply.

The shape that works for email applications

  • Three short paragraphs, about 120 to 200 words. Many recruiters read applications on a phone, between other things.
  • Paragraph one: the role and one real reason. Name the exact role and say something specific about the company — what it builds, a launch, the team — instead of “I am writing to express my interest”.
  • Paragraph two: two or three matches. Take the posting's must-haves and answer each with evidence: a number, a project, a tool.
  • Paragraph three: logistics and a simple ask. When you can join (or your notice period), where you're based, and a request for a short call.

Small things that matter

  • The greeting. Use the recruiter's name if the post gives it. Otherwise “Hello,” or “Hello Hiring Team,” is safer than “Dear Sir/Madam” or “Respected Sir”, which read as dated and assume who is reading.
  • Don't retell your resume. The letter picks the two or three things that matter for this job; the resume has the rest.
  • Check every name. A letter with the wrong company in it is worse than no letter at all.
  • Plain text. No emojis, no coloured fonts, no tables. It's an email, and it should read like one.
  • Be exact about availability. “Can join from 1 July” or “30-day notice period” saves a round of emails.

Application for Graduate Trainee (Software) — Rahul Verma, B.Tech CSE 2026

Hello,

I'm applying for the Graduate Trainee (Software) role at Acme Systems. I'm completing my B.Tech in Computer Science (2026, CGPA 8.1) and can join from July 2026.

For my final-year project, I built a Python and Flask app that matches lost-and-found reports on campus; about 300 students used it in its first semester. During a two-month internship, I wrote unit tests that raised one module's test coverage from 40% to 75%.

The posting asks for Python, SQL and a willingness to learn on the job, and all three describe me. My resume is attached, and I'd be glad to talk at your convenience.

Thank you, Rahul Verma +91 98XXX XXXXX · Pune

Cover letter for a job application email

When you apply by email, the email body is your cover letter — there's no need to attach a separate one unless the posting asks for it. Keep the subject line clear (“Application for Data Analyst — Ananya Iyer”), attach your resume as a PDF, and send it to the address the hiring post gives. The full walkthrough, with templates for freshers and experienced candidates, is in our guide on how to apply for a job through email to HR.

Before you send anything, run your resume through the free ATS resume checker: the letter gets the recruiter to open the attachment, and the resume has to hold up when they do. To send letters to a whole shortlist at once, see auto-apply, and for more on applying well, browse the Hireoo blog.

Frequently asked questions

What the generator writes, what it costs and how the letter reaches the recruiter.

Yes. Starter is ₹0 with no credit card, and every job you apply to gets its own cover letter and email in the Warm & Personal or Tailored to the Job style. Resume Specific and Custom Template come with Hireoo Pro at ₹499/month.

Yes. Each letter is written for that posting — the role, the company and what it asks for — in the style you've chosen. Custom Template is the exception by design: it sends your own letter as written, with the company, the role and the recruiter's name filled in for each job.

Warm & Personal usually suits freshers best: it talks about the role, the company and your skills, and never leans on past employers or job titles. If a posting lists clear requirements, Tailored to the Job answers them one by one from your skills.

Yes. On your first application Hireoo shows you the letter to review. After that, applying is one tap, and every application is listed with exactly what was sent, to whom and when.

Yes — from your own Gmail, with your resume attached, so the recruiter sees it come from you. You connect Gmail with Google sign-in and grant send-only access: Hireoo can send your applications but cannot read your inbox, and replies arrive in your Gmail as usual.

Yes, with Custom Template on Hireoo Pro. Write or paste your letter once, put {Company}, {Role}, {HR_NAME} and {CandidateName} where they belong, and it goes out exactly as written for each job.

Short: three paragraphs, roughly 120 to 200 words. Say which role you're applying for and why this company, match two or three of the posting's must-haves with evidence, and close with when you can join. Your resume carries the detail.
